Magic Touch

Oh my.

When I posted this I thought I was posting it on my practice blog but found out I had actually posted it on this blog instead. So, I decided to leave it here. I am still in  quandary over whether to use Blogspot or WordPress since I have blogs on both. Hmmm. What do you think?

Religious Liberties

On a previous occasion, I pointed out how God has blessed Christian companies. I cited as examples In-N-Out Burger and Chick-fil-A. I believe somebody mentioned Hobby Lobby in a comment on that post. I have since become more acquainted with that great store since one recently opened up close to our home. Like Chick-fil-A this store is closed on Sundays. I had heard they closed Sundays but it had slipped my mind the first time I went to this store. Silly me, I went on a Sunday. When I saw the empty parking lot I remembered they close every Sunday. So, why am I writing this post? Because of an email I received today regarding Hobby Lobby. It was written by David Green, who founded the company. I found it interesting and knew others would also. Here is that article.

Column: Christian companies can’t bow to sinful mandate

By David Green

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn’t much bigger than most people’s living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God’s word. From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We’re Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I’ve always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God’s laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that’s what we’ve tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week’s biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest. We believe that it is by God’s grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We’ve not only added jobs in a weak economy, we’ve raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage.

But now, our government threatens to change all of that. A new government healthcare mandate says that our family business must provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don’t pay for drugs that might cause abortions. Which means that we don’t cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs. It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million per day in government fines.

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy. Our government threatens to fine a company that’s raised wages four years running. Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It’s not right.

I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it’s the same for everybody. But that’s not true. The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won’t exempt them for reasons of religious belief. So, Hobby Lobby — and my family — are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don’t like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.

My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult. The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that’s a choice no American — and no American business — should have to make.

David Green is the CEO and founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

I know the economy is uppermost in most people’s minds as we approach this election in America. As important as that is, we must not forget that our religious liberties are even more important. I hope all Christians will consider this when they go to the polls in November. Slowly but surely our religious liberties are being taken away. Who is doing this? The “politically correct” left leaning politicians. They have turned freedom of religion into freedom from religion. This is just not right. Who is the most left leaning president we have ever had? That’s right. It’s Barak Obama. I hope you will consider this fact and decide if you can conscientiously  vote for him or for any other far left politician. And we must not just stay home and not vote. We need to let our voices be heard.

Obama Not Incompetent

A couple of days ago I found myself renewing interest in this WordPress blog I had not posted in for over a year. I didn’t really know why. Today it “hit me”. I needed to use this blog to say some things I’m not saying in my other “Charlotte’s Weblog.” I am very concerned about the future of our country. So many have said that Obama is “in over his head.” I don’t believe that for a minute. He is doing exactly what he has planned to do all along even before he was nominated to be president of the United States. I hope America wakes up before it is too late. I know that God is ultimately in control of our world, but I know He also lets people have what they want sometimes even though it is not the best thing. A good example is giving Israel a king so many years ago. It wasn’t God’s idea. It was man’s idea, and God in effect, said, “OK. Go ahead and have your king, but you will regret it.” I think the same thing could happen to us here in America. If enough people want Obama in spite of everything, God may say to us “OK. Go ahead and have your “king” but you will be sorry.

So why I am writing this today? I got an email from a very dear very old friend. I had read this before but today I felt like I just had to share it. It was too long to share on facebook and I don’t know the email addresses of many of my friends so I decided to post it here.

It is a message from Obama’s old classmate, Wayne Allyn Root. I totally agreed with what he says here and I just had to share it.

Wayne Allyn Root’s statement below has been “Correctly Attributed.” The link is at the end of his statement.

If Obama is re-elected in 2012, the US is finished. The following is in simple language that everyone can understand, not the gibberish that our government keeps telling people.

Please read this carefully and make sure you keep this message going. This needs to be emailed to everyone in the USA …

By Wayne Allyn Root

Barack Hussein Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. On the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos – thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within. Barack Hussein Obama was my college classmate.

( Columbia University , class of ’83).

He is a devout Muslim; do not be fooled. Look at his czars… Anti-business… anti-American. As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Barack Hussein Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University … they outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands.

Add up the clues below. Taken individually they’re alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a Socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival…And can be counted on to always vote for even bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

Universal Health Care:

The Health Care bill has very little to do with healthcare. It has everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and healthcare workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions). Obama doesn’t care that giving free healthcare to 30 million Americans will add trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government. Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill in the middle of a depression?

Cap and Trade:

Like healthcare legislation having nothing to do with healthcare, Cap and Trade has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with redistribution of income, government control of the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama’s biggest contributors. Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama wants. They will kick-back hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power. The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars, bigger homes and businesses helps Obama “spread the wealth around.”

Making Puerto Rico a state:

Who’s asking for a 51st state? Who’s asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? Certainly not American taxpayers! But this has been Barack Hussein Obama’s plan all along. His goal is to add two new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressmen and a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government. (This will tip the balance of those living off the government to more than those who must pay for it; and we’re done for.)

Legalize 12 million illegal Mexican immigrants:

Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free healthcare alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America . But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters who can be counted on to support big government. Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security.

(see note above re: Puerto Rico )

 Stimulus and bailouts.

Where did all that money go? It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions — including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country. It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions). A staggering $125 billion went to teachers(thereby protecting their union dues). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America . The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful.

The ends justify the means. Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20 percent of taxpayers, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama).

Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government. Barack Obama wants to dramatically raise taxes to starve his political opposition. With the acts outlined above, Barack Hussein Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.

Add it up and you’ve got the perfect Marxist scheme – all devised by my Columbia University college classmate Barack Hussein Obama using the Cloward and Piven Plan.

I hope that everyone who reads this will prayerfully consider the consequences of reelecting the president. Remember what he told the Russians (when he didn’t realize his mike was still on)? “AFTER MY REELECTION I WILL HAVE MORE FLEXIBILITY.”  You better believe it. He will continue what he started in his first term but without worrying about the next election. – Charlotte

As many of you know for the past three years I’ve posted on this blog sometimes and sometimes I posted on my other blog called At Home in Arizona. I’ve decided this is too confusing to some. Sometimes it even gets a little confusing for me. LOL. This has been a dilemma for me for quite a while. Every time I think about dropping one and focusing on the other I can’t decide which one to keep. There are things about WordPress that I like better than Blogger, but there are also things about Blogger that I like better.  So ― after much thought I’ve decided to begin posting just to the other blog. Since I liked the name Charlotte’s Weblog better than At Home in Arizona, I’ve decided to change the name of that blog to Charlotte’s Weblog.

I’ve thought about trying to combine the two blogs but that seems too complicated or maybe even impossible since this one is with WordPress and the other is with Blogger. My photo blog is a WordPress blog and I am keeping it that way.

Here is the link to Charlotte’s Weblog formerly At Home in Arizona.  If you have been following this blog, I hope you will consider following the other Charlotte’s Weblog.

SEPTEMBER 3 – a sad day for me

September 3rd is a sad day for me. Both of my parents left this life on September 3 — exactly one year apart — 1998 and 1999. Since both of these came on Labor Day weekend, that weekend is also sad for me. It is also a glad time for me because our kids always spend Labor Day with us for our last pool party of the summer. I’m so thankful that they live close by.

In honor of my parents, I want to share these four photos.

Mother & Daddy - 1938 in a park in Fullerton, CA

Proud grandparents with our two children Easter 1966.

Golden Wedding Anniversary 1982.

This is the only professional picture they ever had taken together. I remember at the time my mom was really happy about having it made.

I loved my parents very much and there wasn’t ever a second when I felt unloved by either one of them. They always showed me unconditional love. I miss them.

Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” John 11:25-26. I know my mother was a believer. My dad ― I’m not sure. I think he believed, but he lived his life as if he didn’t. He was a good man but never thought he had time for things like church. When we tried to talk to him about it, he always said he was too busy. He had other things to do. All I can do is pray and hope. And I’ve done a lot of that. Church is very important. However, looking back, I think we stressed the “church” part of it too much and not enough emphasis on a relationship with Jesus. People need to realize how short this life really is ― even if you live to 85 or 86 (as my parents did) or even longer. Compared to eternity it is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then is gone.

You can click on the picture at the left to go to our Spiritual Sundays blog. I hope you will take advantage  of reading what others have shared there. I’m always amazed at the diversity and spiritually uplifting posts that are shared.

I was looking at the latest edition of Victoria Magazine (Did I ever tell you that’s my favorite magazine?) and saw an article there about the Charlotte Inn on Martha’s Vineyard. Of course I was interested in it because of the name. Then I got really interested in it when I saw the fabulous photos.

So I was pondering what a cool place the Charlotte Inn would be to stay for a few days. I didn’t look up the information – like how much it cost per night because I knew without looking that it is way way way out of our price range. So I told myself that’s one place I will never go. As I was thinking about how nice it would be to go there, a scripture came to my mind. What was that scripture? John 14:1-3. Here is what it says:

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

I know this place that Jesus is preparing would make the Charlotte Inn look like a slum in the ghetto. So, I’m not at all concerned that I will never visit the Charlotte Inn. I have a much better place to look forward to. I hope you are looking forward to it also. Of course nobody just automatically goes there just as I will not automatically go to the Charlotte Inn. Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. If you are not preparing to go there, I hope you will seriously consider doing just that. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father but by me.” John 14:6

Many were intrigued with the pink salt which was a gift from my niece, Ginger that I shared on my last post. I mentioned that she also gave me a really neat magazine. That magazine is called life:beautiful. I had never seen the magazine before. She bought it in a book store. The photos at the left and below were taken of an article in that magazine.

You will see in the picture below that there are many different colors and kinds of salt — not just pink. Who would have thought? Certainly not me. Not I?

This looks like another Pink Saturday share to me. This weekend is the special Miracle Makeover blog party. Pink Saturday is participating in that event. Be sure to go there and make a comment even if you don’t do Pink Saturday, but it is hard to find anyone who doesn’t do Pink Saturday. LOL. And, of course, I want you to visit Spiritual Sundays and comment there as well.  Metamorphosis Monday @Between Naps On The Porch/Susan  is also participating. Comments there must be made on Monday only. And don’t forget Sherry at Country Wings in Phoenix. Her blog is a bloggers delight. Of course Sherry is participating in the Miracle Makeover.

Each comment at the above sites this weekend is worth $1.00 towards the next Miracle Makeover by Design Gives  Back. If you don’t know about the Miracle Makeover and how you can be involved, be sure to click on Design Gives Back to go there and find out about it. It is truly awesome.

And now here’s the picture of all those other salts.

Click on the picture to enlarge it. You will even be able to read descriptions of the different salts if you enlarge it.

And here is a picture of that awesome magazine where this article was found.

There is a lot of pink in the cover of this magazine too. Wonderful for Pink Saturday.
