Today for Vintage Thingies Thursdays I want to share my favorite cookbook with you. It’s vintage of course.
I have a lot of cookbooks and as I was telling Hubby the other day after I got a recipe off the internet that people really don’t need cookbooks anymore because you can get recipes for anything online. I still have one cookbook that I use. It’s my oldest one and I use it every Thanksgiving and Christmas and sometimes in between. The recipe I use for pecan pie is in this book. Here is a copy of the page.
I’ve been making pies by this recipe for many many years. It calls for 1 cup of dark Karo syrup though and I use light Karo syrup instead. Sometimes I use half dark and half white. I entered one of these pies in a pie contest at a church fellowship one year and won first prize.
Here is the book the recipe is in. It really is a vintage cookbook. I bought it shortly after I got married in 1958.
Here’s the price tag inside the front cover. I bought it at the May Co. which was my favorite store back then. It was bought out by Robinsons and became Robinsons/May. That became my favorite place to shop and now it is gone too – bought out by Macy’s. Wonder who will buy out Macy’s and that will be gone too? I did hear they are closing a few of their stores.

Be sure to go visit the Colorado Lady for more Vintage Thingies Thursday posts.

Vintage for sure!
I agree…with the internet now, cookbooks are gathering dust on my shelves. Not to mention all the yummy recipes I collect from fellow bloggers.
Hugs!

I love cookbooks! Every time I buy one I feel bad because I know I can get what I need for free on line. Did you know that pecan pie is my favorite!!!! Sometimes when I buy cookbooks it’s because they are so pretty, but SHHH~~~~ don’t tell anyone ! OH~~~ did I tell you that pecan pie was my favorite!!!
Have a great day,

Cookbooks are great, I use them much more than the internet! Your book looks very nice in the text pages as well as the cover.
We married July 7, 1958. What was your wedding date?
what wonderful vintage cookbooks. I love the cover of the second one. I prefer old cookbooks over the newer ones.
Mr. Linky was down…not my error..LOL. I linked you in for this week.
Have a great weekend!
Those are great! Hold on to them. Thanks for sharing.

I’m forever removing price tags but good thing you kept that on. I have my first Betty Crocker cookbook from my wedding shower back in 1976.
Wow, 2.99? Those days are over, aren’t they?
Love vintage cookbooks.
Oh my goodness. When I saw the picture, I thought sure it was the same as mine. I remember my mother in law passing down a very similar one to me and I was quite offended. I was too young to appreciate it but now I sure do!
oh, i love it…i have one of these…my mom had one, too.
i’m cooking a chicken today from my BHG collection though…
Just a great cook book…I still have mine from 1960 WOW long time ago..hugs and smiles Gloria
What a wonderful cookbook! I too wonder what will happen to Macy’s – seems like they should around forever. We just opened ours a year ago and now…who knows. ~Kelly

What a great cookbook and i love pecan pie…YUM 🙂
I love cookbooks too. I have always wanted to write one, and have started to do it. I think I got sick with Shingles and had to put it aside.
I love to just read cookbooks. Vintage cookbooks are just the best.!
I love the illustrations in old cookbooks.
